Wow, these last couple of months have been a bit of a doozy. As my current students know, I am a mother and music teacher who works and teaches lessons from my home. With that being said, anytime my family needs to move, well, so does my business.
We were just going along our merry way prepping for the summer, and I was rehearsing for a show when we got a text from our landlord saying that they were planning on selling the apartment we were renting in Bountiful, Utah by the end of the summer and we could either buy it from them, or we would have 60 days to move out. Well, as it says in my bio I am a mother of one and counting so a two bedroom apartment just wasn’t going to cut it for our families needs in the long term. So, we took the offer to leave and began our 60 days moving journey. I began informing current students that I would be in a different location by the end of the summer and put a hold on receiving any new students. Although, I somehow managed to conduct a couple of free trial lessons anyways. Lovely people, but none of them stuck. By the end of it all I managed to keep 3 students who would move with me to the new location.
Well, thus began the hunt. Did we look to buy a starter home and start a home loan? Did we look to downsize to a smaller and less expensive space so we could save for somewhere more permanent? Or did we look for something a little more expensive but also a little bigger? We explored all of our options and eventually exhausted all of our resources between my husband and I. We had found a cute little basement apartment in Bountiful with a lovely landlady for a significantly cheaper rent price than what we were currently paying, however we lost out to a different family who had applied sooner than we had. I was at the end of my options and quite frankly I didn’t know where to go to grow my family and my business at the same time.
Not everyone is religious or believes in a higher power and if you are reading this and that applies to you, that is perfectly fine. To each their own, however, I do. Sometimes when I reach the end of all I can do, I have to reach to the higher power I believe in and ask for help and that is exactly what I did. At the end of my existential cry for help I got the prompting to ask my grandma to look at apartment listings on my behalf and send me a list of her favorites that met all of our criteria. The next day I called her and she agreed to help me out. In fact, she listed off all my criteria before I could even begin to share them with her. Within about 2 hours of our phone call, I got a call from my grandma that she had found a place in Syracuse and thought I should call right away to go look at it.
I have phone anxiety, so I sent a text message to the number on the listing she sent and received an immediate response that I could in fact, look at the place in 20 minutes. Bountiful is 20 minutes away from Syracuse, BUT, I have a toddler and I hadn’t gotten ready yet so 20 minutes wasn’t exactly doable. I asked if 45 minutes would work and it did not. So, I made an appointment for the following Monday afternoon and sent my grandma and dad to look at the place on my behalf just to make sure that it was worth the appointment at the end of the weekend. They fell in love with it. When I looked at it on Monday, I fell in love with it and so did my husband and he was only present via FaceTime. That evening, on Monday June 8th, we applied for a 4 bedroom, 2 bath HOUSE in Syracuse, Utah.
After about a week of anxiety waiting for an answer on whether or not we were approved and could sign a lease, we got the joyous news that we were going to be moving to Syracuse in July! We signed the lease that Thursday, June 18th, and made plans to move out of our apartment in Bountiful and into a house in Syracuse Saturday, July 25th 2026. This would be one week after closing night of the show I was in, “The Wizard of Oz,” at Hopebox Theatre in Kaysville City, Utah. It would also be one week before the end of our 60 days on August 1st.
Moving day was intense as we had hired movers to move our furniture, especially my piano and our big sleeper couch from the third floor of three story building. After 7.5 hours and more money that I would have liked, our home was transported from Bountiful to Syracuse, Utah where we plan to live until we can afford to buy a more permanent home in hopefully 3-5 years. We still have cleaning and unpacking to do, but as of August 4th, 2026 we will be able to welcome all aspiring singers and musicians to our new home in Syracuse, Utah.
