Progress and Growth

I’ve been thinking a lot about progress and growth lately. From a motherhood perspective, my toddler has made some progress with his potty training and has earned his trip to one of his favorite places. He is far from being fully trained by using the potty upon prompting, or even listening to his body to initiate using it himself. However, he has recognized when he is using the potty and that he can do it and what it means and feels like to stay dry. The skill is far from being mastered but it has made progress and both of us have grown in the process. More aware, more patient, more tolerant of accidents and not letting them ruin our whole day. (That one is for me personally)

As a performer I have grown considerably over the past couple of years. I have gone from exclusively performing in school sponsored productions to being able to share the stage with some incredible performers at the community level. I have gone to auditions and learned from different production teams how they run their auditions and call-back process. I’ve also learned that as an actress, while I still have plenty of room to grow in the depth of the characters I portray, I am not starting from scratch anymore. I have also gone back to taking voice lessons and broadening my range of signing by introducing belt to my otherwise classically trained vocal repertoire.

As a business owner, I have gone from scraping together a music studio from ideas and plans to actually making them a reality. This time last year, I only had 3 students and now I have 7. That is truly remarkable and it is all thanks to the hard work, positive mindset, and perseverance I have poured into my studio; but also because of the wonderful support of my community and the students I have taught who make Nightingale Music Studio what it is. My students truly are the dream.

The world feels really scary right now. I don’t know where I will be next year, but I do know this one thing. Where there is hope, there is progress. Evil will still exist. Critics will still exist. But those who persevere towards the dream they wish to make a reality will make all the difference.
